The Rules

How the Saudi end-of-service award is set by law

Article 84 sets the award; Article 85 reduces it when the worker resigns; Article 87 lists the cases where a worker who leaves still receives it in full.

Length of serviceContract ended by the employer or expiredWorker resigned
Under 2 yearsHalf a month’s wage per yearNo award
2 to 5 yearsHalf a month’s wage per yearOne third of the award
More than 5, under 10 yearsHalf a month’s wage for each of the first 5 years, then one month’s wage per yearTwo thirds of the award
10 years or moreHalf a month’s wage for each of the first 5 years, then one month’s wage per yearThe full award

Wage used: the last wage, meaning the basic wage plus all other due increases. Part-years count in proportion. Under Article 87 a worker who leaves because of force majeure, or a female worker who resigns within 6 months of marriage or 3 months of giving birth, receives the full award.

The Method

How the calculator works it out

  1. The monthly wage is the last basic wage plus regular allowances, because the award is calculated on the full last wage rather than on basic pay alone.
  2. Service is counted from the start date to the last working day, inclusive. A year is 365 days.
  3. The full award is half a month’s wage for each of the first five years and one month’s wage for each year after that, with part-years counted in proportion.
  4. If the worker resigned, the share in Article 85 is applied: nothing under two years, one third from two to five years, two thirds above five and under ten years, and the full award from ten years.
  5. If one of the Article 87 cases applies, the full award is paid whatever the length of service.

Scope

What this calculator does not cover

  • Why the contract ended is a legal question. The calculator applies the reason you choose; it cannot decide a dispute about whether a termination or resignation was what it is described as.
  • Other final dues. Unpaid wages, leave balance, notice pay and any amounts lawfully deducted are settled separately.
  • Variable pay. Commissions and other pay that changes month to month can affect the last wage in ways a single monthly figure cannot capture.

Settling final dues for a whole workforce?

TimeTrax Separation Management automates final settlement calculations with payroll data, so every exit is worked out from the same record — not rebuilt in a spreadsheet each time someone leaves.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is end of service calculated in Saudi Arabia?

Under Article 84 of the Labor Law the award is half a month’s wage for each of the first five years of service and one month’s wage for each year after that, calculated on the last wage, with part-years counted in proportion.

Is the Saudi end-of-service award based on basic salary or total salary?

On the last wage, which the Ministry of Human Resources describes as the basic wage plus all other due increases — so regular allowances such as housing and transport are included.

What do I get if I resign?

Under Article 85: nothing if you resign before two years of service, one third of the award after two to five years, two thirds after more than five and under ten years, and the full award after ten years or more.

How much end of service do I get after 5 years in Saudi Arabia?

Five years at half a month’s wage a year is two and a half months’ wage: SAR 30,000 on a monthly wage of SAR 12,000. A worker who resigns at exactly five years receives one third of that under Article 85: SAR 10,000.

When does a worker who leaves still get the full award?

Under Article 87, when the worker leaves because of force majeure, or when a female worker resigns within 6 months of her marriage or within 3 months of giving birth.

Is the salary I enter sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted, stored or tracked.
